Release of AIGMF 2024 Print Calendar on the theme ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’ (Dec 7, 2023)

The annual calendar on solar glass was officially released on Dec 7 in AIGMF office at the Container Glass Meet where former President and Office Bearers were present along with other members.

To commemorate International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) invited online entries from the age group between 7-24 years to participate in the contest themed ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass or सोलर ग्लास से हरित ऊर्जा I

Top 3 three winners were given cash prizes. And later the entire project was converted into the 2024 Calendar by using their creatives and poems.

As the National Apex Body of the Glass Industry, the AIGMF undertakes socially responsible steps as a voluntary service to society, thereby bringing increased awareness of Glass being a safe and 100% recyclable packaging material.

As a part of an educative process, 2000 wall calendars were distributed to AIGMF Members/Regional Associations, Stakeholders: All members of the Parliament in upper and lower houses/Govt. of India Secretaries/office of Chief Secretaries/LGs/Administrators/CMs/select GoI departments/Trade Chambers/Education Secretaries/All FOSG Members/Firozabad/CGCRI contacts/General, Foreign Missions, select PAN India schools/colleges/Universities, Niti Aayog, PMO, MNRE, Solar Module/Manufacturers, select worldwide glass associations, etc.

AIGMF at Glasstec Asia Bangkok (Nov 29-Dec 1, 2023)

The 19th edition of Glasstech Asia – and the sixth edition for Fenestration Asia was held at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre in Bangkok, Thailand from Nov 29 to Dec 1, 2023. The event centered on all glass used in building and automotive Industry, which included sectors in manufacturing, processing, and supplies for glass machineries, along with construction and façades with more than 20 supported Industry Associations, As the positioning of “Glass Family Of Asia

AIGMF supported the event as a Media partner. Secretary and Consultant AIGMF along with Mr. Purvish Shah (Treasurer AIGMF and Director in Gopal Glass Works Ltd., and Gobind Glass and Industries Ltd.,) were specially invited by Messe Muchen to be a part of their show. In the technical conference, Mr. Shah gave a presentation on Future of Solar and Textured Glass on Dec 1.

The Glasstech Asia and Fenestration Asia events were organized by MMI Asia in partnership with the Singapore Glass Association (SGA) and BAU Network. The 2024, 20th edition of Glasstech and Fenestration Asia is slated to be held in Vietnam from Dec 11-13, 2024. AIGMF would again be supporting the event as an important partner from India.

World Soda Ash Conference 2023 (October 10-12, 2023)

The World Soda Ash Conference 2023 was held from Oct 10-12 at Athens, Greece. The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation supported the conference as one of the Media partners.

Mr. Rajesh Khosla, Sr. VP AIGMF & CEO/President AGI Greenpac presented a paper on Soda Ash and Container Glass Industry on Oct 12.

4th glasspro INDIA & 7th glasspex INDIA (Sept 14-16, 2023)

7th edition of glasspex INDIA & 4th edition of glasspro INDIA took place at Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai from 14-16 September 2023.

14th International Conference on "Decarbonization for the Sustainable Glass Industry” (September 15, 2023)

AIGMF in partnership with Glass Worldwide magazine and Messe Dusseldorf organized its 14th International Conference on "Decarbonization for the Sustainable Glass Industry” on Sept 15 covering following technical presentations from the world's renowned glass technology providers.

The conference was extremely successful in registering over 100 members from the industry world over. Apart from expert speakers, Delhi Technological University, Messe Düsseldorf India and Glass Worldwide's support, the conference was sponsored and supported by companies namely - La Opala, Borosil, Cello, Haldyn Glass, Schott India, PGP, AGI, Gopal Glass, Empire-Vitrum, Asahi, Gujarat Guardian, Kapoor Glass, NIPRO, Neutral Glass, NES, Dukhiram Maurya, Mascot, Firozabad and affiliated members."

The Q&A sessions were moderated by Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher of Glass Worldwide magazine & Prof. A S Rao, Head, Department of Applied Physics, Delhi Technological University and Member Editorial Board of KANCH (quarterly journal of AIGMF)

The wrap-up was done by Mr. Purvish Shah, Treasurer AIGMF and Director in Gopal Glass Works Ltd., and Gobind Glass and Industries Ltd.

The concluding presentation on glasstec 2024 was given by Mr. Lars Wismer, Director Occupational Safety & Health / Glass Technologies, Messe Düsseldorf GmBH

Glass Industry celebrates success with Youth and Manufacturers’ (Aug 26, 2023)

Under the banner of the International Youth Day an Industry meet was organised at AIGMF’s Annual General Meeting at Hotel Lemon Tree, Aerocity, DELHI.

The program provided an excellent platform to honour Youth of the country who participated in AIGMF’s annual contest on ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’ or सोलर ग्लास से हरित ऊर्जा I The contest was made open to Youth between 7-24 years who were asked to submit online entries by means of drawings, photos, poems, essays, technical articles etc. Hundreds of entries were received from schools and colleges across India. 1st Prize (Rs. 25,000) was given to Mohd. Juned aged 21 years, a student of Bachelor of Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia, DELHI. 2nd Prize (Rs. 15,000) was given to Sarthak Kumar aged 15 years, 10th class student of Sant Nandlal Smriti Vidya Mandir, Ghatshila, JHARKHAND. 3rd Prize (Rs. 10,000) was given to Sparsh Tejwani aged 21 years, a student of MSc. Economics with BTECH EEE, BITS Pilani, RAJASTHAN.

The prestigious annual CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology was given to Er. Pulkit Gaur, Chief Technology Officer, Gridbots Technologies.

The Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports was bestowed to Schott Glass India Pvt. Ltd. Both awards are supported by Glass Worldwide, preferred international journal of the AIGMF in association with Kanch.

Er. Pulkit Gaur currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Gridbots Technologies and drives the companies Innovation and Technological advancements. An Engineer by education and the founder of Gridbots Technologies - Robotics is his passion. He has been building robots since his childhood.

The jury for Glass Awards comprised of Mr. P K Kheruka, Former President AIGMF and Chairman Borosil Ltd.; Dr. K. Annapurna, Chief Scientist, Glass Division, CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI); Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher, Glass Worldwide, London (UK); Mr. Sanjay Somany, Former President AIGMF; and Mr. Vinit Kapur, Secretary AIGMF.

Parallel to these events and for the benefit of Members, a special session on RISK MANAGEMENT was also held where Mr. Mahesh Tanwar, IRDA, AMFI, MDRT Qualifier Life Insurance Corporation of India gave a presentation on Employer-Employee Insurance.

Ms. Ruchi Shukla, Head Energy, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited, gave a presentation on Energy Price Risk Management for glass companies. Emphasis was laid on the importance of hedging in today’s competitive business environment and how price risk management can help companies protect their budgeted costs & profitability margins.

The Jury for the annual contest on ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’ comprised of Mr. Shreevar Kheruka, Vice President AIGMF & Vice Chairman- Borosil Renewables Ltd.; Mr. Varun Gupta, Chief Executive Officer- Triveni Renewables Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Purvish Shah, Hon. Treasurer AIGMF & Director- Gobind Glass and Industries Ltd.; and Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher, Glass Worldwide (Preferred International Journal of AIGMF in association with KANCH) as well as Honorary Member of the AIGMF.

As a token of appreciation, top 100 entries for the annual youth contest on ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’ will get 80 years AIGMF Glass Mementoes specially designed by M/s La Opala RG Ltd.

National Workshop on ascertaining a Skill Centre for Glass and Glazing (Aug 11, 2023)

A one-day national workshop on ascertaining a skill centre for glass and glazing was organized by the Department of Applied Physics, Delhi Technological University at their campus on August 11, 2023.

The whole idea was to bring Industry and Academia together which was initially discussed at the Glass & Glazing Knowledge Forum (GGKF) in early July, where members were of the view to ascertain and establish a training center for Glass and Glazing at DELHI NCR. GGKF represents following industry associations: FOSG (Federation of Safety Glass), GSI (Glazing Society of India), CCPS (Confederation of Construction Products and Services), UWDMA (uPVC Window & Door Manufacturers Association), Glass Academy and AIGMF (The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation).

The program started with a Registration followed by a National Anthem, Lamp Lighting & Floral Welcome of the Guests. The Welcome Address was given by Prof. A. S. Rao, HoD, Department of Applied Physics, Delhi Technological University (and Chairman of the workshop) which was followed by an Address by Prof. Rishu Chaujar, Convener of the one day National Workshop.

A special address was given by Prof. Madhusudan Singh, Registrar, Delhi Technological University (DTU) who was upbeat on Glass recycling so as to make our surroundings clean.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairman, Federation of Safety Glass (FOSG) and Managing Director, Gurind India (P) Ltd., interacted with the students and faculty on Glass Safety by citing suitable examples of Glass installations.

Mr. Amit Malhotra, President of Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS) and Managing Director McCoy Silicones Ltd., spoke about Glazing- its need and installation.In the end, Mr. Vinit Kapur, Secretary, The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation interacted with participants on bringing Industry and Academia together for a win win situation. Participants were told that 4 students of DTU and Prof. A S Rao (Member Editorial Board KANCH) will be a part of the 14th AIGMF International Conference on ''Decarbonization for the Sustainable Glass Industry” on Sept 15 covering technical presentations from the world's renowned glass technology providers. The conference will be held concurrently with glasspex and glasspro India exhibitions at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai, India to be staged from Sept 14-16, 2023.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mukhtiyar Singh, Co-Convener for the day-long Workshop.

The program was followed by lunch and discussions with the Registrar, DTU on the next steps and to ascertain what all needs to be done to move ahead in the right direction.

World Environment Day celebrated at Ahmedabad (June 17, 2023)

Parallel to its Executive Committee and at the maiden meeting at Ahmedabad, the AIGMF program saw presentations on: Cullet Sorting Technologies, Air Quality in Glass Manufacturing Units and Hydrogen as feedstock for manufacturing of Clear Glass.

President AIGMF Mr. Sanjay Agrawal thanked Mr. Purvish Shah, Hon. Treasurer AIGMF and Director Gopal Glass Works Ltd., for taking the lead of holding this special event on their successful setting up of a greenfield project on Solar Glass at Ahmedabad under the name M/s Gobind Glass Works Ltd. Team Members of M/s Gopal Glass Work Ltd., made some excellent meeting arrangements at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Ahmedabad, which were appreciated by everyone.

Mr. Kartik Morar, V&K Recycling Co., an Affiliate Member of the AIGMF made the presentation on cullet sorting technologies by citing the proper case studies.

Mr. Deepak Gahlowt, Practicing Architect and Secretary of the Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS) gave a presentation on the air quality by showing photos of some of his PAN-India projects.

Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Technical Advisor, Green Hydrogen Development at Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, GIZ Office gave a presentation on Hydrogen set up for glass manufacturing units.

To appropriately mark the event, glass jar bottles made out of 100% recycled glass at the recycling plant installed by M/s V&K Recycling at M/s Sunrise Glass Industries Pvt. Ltd., were presented by Mr. Gaurav Thakkar, Mr. Hargun Bhambani and Mr. Kartik Morar to President AIGMF Mr. Sanjay Agarwal and Treasurer AIGMF Mr. Purvish Shah; as well as a bottle each was gifted to all participants.

The Members were served with an excellent variety of lunch and the program concluded with the high tea.

A special Evening was organised at ‘Vishalla’ an Authentic village set up under Natural and Eco-Friendly Ambience with a restaurant serving premium quality Gujarati cuisine over folk art & entertainment and a Puppet Show. Vishalla prides itself on its presentation of Indian culture and tradition in its village-like environment with its museum of old utensils known as Vechaar.

Vechaar is the only museum of its kind in the world, displaying such a precious collection of utensils. A walk around the hut-like museum makes one's heart skip a beat, marveling at the inimitable beauty of these utensils of old. These utensils have been handed down through the changing seasons and times, over the years.

It was decided that the next Executive Committee meeting along with AGM will be held at Delhi on August 26.

Glass Industry Get-together to commemorate 80 Years of the AIGMF (March 25, 2023)

The first quarter Executive Committee meeting of The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) unveiled 80 years celebrations, which was hosted by M/s Nirmal Glasstech Industries Pvt. Ltd. at Kundan Van, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The session started with the welcome address by the President, Mr. Sanjay Agrawal who thanked everyone for their participation. Past Presidents were felicitated and the motto was set to reach 100-years’ celebration in the flying colors.

Parallel to the Executive Committee meeting, a special session on Investment opportunities in the state of Rajasthan was organized wherein Mr. Kulveer Singh, Additional General Manager, Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) gave a presentation on the lucrative opportunities that could be made available in various RIICO Industrial hubs for the glass manufacturers.

Another special session was kept on the Innovative Glass Melting Technologies – A patchwork of progress wherein Mr. Aston Fuller, General Manager and Mr. Masimba Toperesu, R&D Projects of Glass Futures Ltd., United Kingdom gave a presentation by covering the following main topics:

  • – Progress across the global glass industry for decarbonization
  • – The selection of technologies for different regions
  • – Discussions about how to drive global collaborations
  • – An update on the Glass Futures facility and what access Indian innovators can expect

The President AIGMF, Mr. Sanjay Agarwal acknowledged the support of M/s Nirmal Glasstech Industries Pvt. Ltd., Jaipur for organizing a power packed event for the benefit of Glass Manufacturers. Special mention was also made for M/s La Opala RG Ltd., for sponsoring an elegant gift set specially designed for AIGMF on completion of 80 years.

The event saw participation of approx. 80 stakeholders comprising Glass manufacturers, Machinery suppliers, consultants and research organizations thereby benefitting the glass industry to debate on programmes aimed for the betterment of environment and health issues.

The event concluded with a Gala Dinner and a cultural show, which saw hundreds participate from Rajasthan and PAN India to celebrate 80 years of AIGMF as well as the 25th birthday of Mr. Aditya Mundra, Director, Nirmal Glasstech Industries Pvt. Ltd. On March 26, the guests were taken for a sightseeing and visit to Amer fort. As a token of appreciation, a glass memento gift set was given to all participants to mark the special milestone of the AIGMF.

Release of 80 Years AIGMF Mementoes (March 25, 2023)

At the Ex-Com meeting at Jaipur on March 25, Former Presidents and Office Bearers were invited to unveil the 80 Years AIGMF Mementoes.

President Mr. Sanjay Agarwal thanked Mr. Ajit Jhunjhunwala and LaOpala RG Ltd., for sponsoring and arranging the elegant Mementos specially designed for AIGMF on completing 80 years of its inception.

Secretary said that the series of events are planned in 2023-24 along with international exhibitions, conferences, publications etc., to mark this milestone.

Glass Industry Meets at Guwahati to conclude International Year of celebrations in India (Dec 9-11, 2022)

First ever AIGMF’s Executive Committee meeting as well as Hybrid meeting was organised at Guwahati, Assam on Dec 10, which was hosted by North East Sillimanite Refractories, an Affiliate Member of The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation (AIGMF).

The event saw technical presentations by Competition Commission of India, GoI; SEFPRO/SEPR India, Concluding IYoG 2022 lecture by CGCRI and release of AIGMF’s 2023 calendar on ‘Green as Glass’. All events were centered around International Year of Glass 2022 celebrations.

In a technical session moderated by Mr. Dave Fordham of Glass Worldwide (Honorary AIGMF member), Mr. Umesh Kumar IPS, State Resource Person, Competition Commission of India, Government of India gave a presentation on “Competition Law for Trade Associations and Enterprises” and Mr. Cyril Linnot and Mr. Suraj Kumar of SEFPRO/SEPR India discussed the application of self-flow monolithics to prolong the life of glass melting furnaces in hot and cold repairs.

Mr. Umesh Kumar and Mr. Tanuj Goswami, his colleague gave an Overview on the Competition Act, its objectives and functions. Inquiry, Investigation, Coverage, Powers of the Commission were also highlighted by citing suitable case records. The Presentation was well appreciated by the participating members who were around 50 comprising of glass manufacturers, affiliate members of AIGMF, special invitees etc.

A concluding lecture by Dr. K. Annapurna, Chief Scientist, Glass Division CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, summarised International Year of Glass (IYoG) activities in India. Commemorative IYoG glass bottles specially made by AGI glaspac and HNG from recycled glass were also awarded.

A highlight of the meeting was the release of the AIGMF calendar 2023 on the theme ‘Green as Glass’, a project centred on IYoG celebrations and featuring 2022 winners of the AIGMF’s annual contest for youth: the first-ever poem/essay writing contest on ‘Green as Glass’ that coincided with the International Youth Day.

Delegates learned about opportunities for investment in the northeast region, including subsidies offered by the Government of Assam and the advantages of the area’s availability of natural gas, limestone, dolomite, sillimanite, mullite and corundum.

Mr. Tanuj Samaddar (who lives in Assam), 2020 winner of the AIGMF’s ‘Drawing Competition 3.0’ on the theme ‘Glass Protects’, addressed attendees in Guwahati and enthused about glass as “the only 100% recyclable packaging and building material.”

NES hosted 2 dinner receptions on Dec 9 and 10 where a local cultural evening programme showcased the indigenous Bihu folk dance, an important part of Assamese culture. NES organised an accompanying tour to the holy city and delegates visited the Kamakhya Temple.

“Most of the glass manufacturers present in the event have been using NES products and they expressed their full satisfaction on the quality, service and performance of the products” commented Mr. Aman Gupta, Managing Partner of North East Sillimanite (a unit of NES Refractories LLP). NES, located in Guwahati, is successfully utilising local resources and providing world class bonded refractories and monolithics to the container, float, solar, sheet, figured and opal glass sectors in India and abroad with products such as high alumina (42%–99% AL2O3) and basic refractories including 88%–98% magnesia, magnesia-zircon, magnesia-zirconia-alumina and special refractories zircon and zircon-mullite.

IYoG celebration continues in India- SGT President held workshops with school & university students (Nov 30, 2022)

At the invitation of The All India Glass Manufactures’ Federation (AIGMF), Dr. Arun Varshneya, President of Society of Glass Technology, United Kingdom and Member of the International Year of Glass 2022 held interactive sessions with the students of St. Thomas School and Delhi Technological University on Nov 30 at Delhi.

The program at the school saw a participation of around 300 students from 9th and 11th standards. The topic chosen by Prof. Varshneya was Stronger Glass Products and an Overview on IYoG (International Year of Glass 2022).

A tribute was paid by the Eco-club Students/Teachers, Prof. Varshneya/AIGMF to Mahatma Gandhi who used to walk at the St. Thomas school grounds by holding glass bottles with Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (clean India campaign) logo, adopted from the spectacles of Mahatma Gandhi by the Govt. of India; and IYoG logo.

Prof. Varshneya made the sessions very interesting over some simple experiments which created a lot of enthusiasm amongst the students. Mr. Purvish Shah, Office Bearer of AIGMF and Director of the Gopal Glass Works Ltd. in Ahmedabad, gave an overview on the Indian Glass Industry. Mr. Vinit Kapur, Secretary AIGMF highlighted the importance and need for building academic and CSR linkages for Environmental and Health reasons.

"Students were very happy to discover the magical world of glass. They learnt many facts and were eager to engage in knowing the properties, types and career prospects. Prof. Varshneya is also President of Saxon Glass Technologies as well as Professor of Glass Science & Engineering, Emeritus, at Alfred University, New York, USA.

Rao, Head, Department of Applied Physics, Delhi Technological University said that “A Technical Talk by Prof. Arun Varshneya was organized by the Department of Applied Physics in association with The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation on Nov 30, 2022. Prof. Varshneya interacted with our students showcasing the growing importance of glass and its popularity in packaging and building material. He has covered the topics from fundamentals to advances in glass science and technology. Discussions were carried on the further technical cooperation and research collaborations in Glass Science and Technology with the support of AIGMF. Thanks to Prof. Varshneya, Mr. Purvish Shah and Mr. Vinit Kapur for their presence at DTU."

“We have received overwhelming responses from the students within a short time. Dean (Academic-PG) Prof. Rinku Sharma, Faculty Members and Research Scholars have attended the program. More than 80 members participated to make the event a grand success.”

Mr. Vinit Kapur, Secretary of the Federation gave a presentation on the Most recent Indian IYoG activities involving Youth. He was in an upbeat mood to work more closely with the young minds. “He said that students have not only shown commitment and willingness but have also contributed significantly on the relevant topics related to Health and Environment; glass and its usage in our daily lives.

All participating students, Teachers and Professors were given Mementoes- glass bottles with IYoG logo specially made by AGI glaspac and HNG out of the recycled glass.

World Soda Ash Conference 2022 (Oct 11-13, 2022)

The World Soda Ash Conference 2022 was held from Oct 11-13, 2022 at Sorrento ITALY.

The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation supported the conference as one of the media partners.

AIGMF Members were entitled for a discount on the participation, which saw a few member companies participating in the event.

AIGMF and Glass Worldwide at glasstec 2022 (Sept 20-23, 2022)

As per previous glasstec shows, The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) and Glass Worldwide once again shared joint stands (13A42 & 13A44) at glasstec 2022 from Sept 20-23 at Dusseldorf, GERMANY.

AIGMF in partnership with Glass Worldwide, our Honorary Member and preferred international journal in association with Kanch (Glass) was able to organise a wide range of International Year of Glass (IYOG) activities involving Youth and Industry Members in 2021 and 2022. The support of the International Commission on Glass and Worldwide Glass Associations was also commendable.

We were able to meet many AIGMF Members and stakeholders at Dusseldorf and discussed future activities including publications. A detailed report will be published in Glass Worldwide, Kanch and Glass News.

In the “International Year of Glass”, the 936 exhibitors from 47 countries impressively demonstrated to 30,000 visitors from 119 countries the operational excellence of the sector.

5th AIGMF Glass Awards (Sept 3, 2022)

Former President Mr. Sanjay Somany gave the prestigious annual ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ to Mr. Eric L’Heureux- Managing Director, Schott Poonawalla Pvt. Ltd. The ‘Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports’ was bestowed to M/s Schott Poonawalla Pvt. Ltd., by the Former President, Mr. Pradeep Gupta. Both awards are supported by Glass Worldwide, preferred international journal of the AIGMF in association with Kanch.

The program was well attended by approx. 80 senior industry members.

Under Mr. L’Heureux’s guidance, Schott Poonawalla today has 4 state-of-the-art manufacturing units in Daman, Jambusar, Umarsadi and Baddi in India that produce an entire range of products including, bulk vials and ampoules, specialty vials and ampoules, siliconized vials, siliconized cartridges and Ready-to-Fill (RTF) vials and cartridges, siliconized pre-crimped RTF nested cartridges, sterile nested vials and an entire range of pre-fillable syringes.

As the world health safety concerns soared during the COVID-19 pandemic, Schott Poonawalla has been the supplier of vials for COVID-19 vaccines, not only for India but also supported the global vaccination drive by exporting substantial quantum of vials across the globe including Europe, USA, Russia and South Africa. The company successfully contributed towards 4.3 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines globally, through supply of vials, out of which 3 billion doses were provided for India and 1.3 billion doses were provided for the global market.

Green Hydrogen Economy: Options for Indian Glass Manufacturers (Sept 3, 2022)

As part of the celebrations for the International Year of Glass (IYOG 2022) an Industry meet was organised at its Annual General Meeting at Hotel Lemon Tree, Aerocity, DELHI where NTPC’s Mr. DMR Panda, Head of Hydrogen Group and Planning Head of Renewable Business gave a presentation on Green Hydrogen Economy: Options for Indian Glass Manufacturers.

Mr. Panda highlighted that “the Indian glass manufacturing industry can position itself as a low-s cost, zero-carbon green hydrogen manufacturing hub which can help to achieve India's Net Zero target. As always, the Indian glass manufacturing industry lead by examples, it can be one of the early movers in the green hydrogen space and set an example for all MSMEs/hard-to-abate sectors.”

The program was well attended by approx. 80 senior industry members.

The program provided an excellent opportunity for The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation (AIGMF) to honour Youth of the country who participated from schools and colleges across India in its annual contest for Youth: 1 st Poem / Essay Writing Contest on ‘Green as Glass’ or कांच और पर्यावरण coinciding with the International Youth Day on August 12, 2022.

Former Presidents- Mr. Sanjay Somany & CMD Hindustan National Glass & Industries Ltd.; and Mr. S C Bansal, CMD Adarsh Kanch Udyog Pvt. Ltd., were jury members who judged top 3 entries:

As part of the celebrations for the International Year of Glass (IYOG2022) The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation (AIGMF) organised its annual contest for Youth: 1st Poem / Essay Writing Contest on ‘Green as Glass’ or कांच और पर्यावरण coinciding with the International Youth Day.

Online entries were invited from the age group between 7-24 wherein over 2,000 entries were received from educational institutes and youth across India.

1st Prize (Rs. 25,000) was given to Akshita Tejwani aged 14 years, 10th class student of Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School, Jaipur

2nd Prize (Rs. 15,000) was given to R. Shruthi aged 15 years, 10th class student of Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Chennai

3rd Prize (Rs. 10,000) was given to Kanishk Sharma aged 16 years, 11th class student of Ajanta Public School, Gurugram (Haryana)

EXHIBITION ON ARTWORK / PHOTOGRAPHY BY PAN INDIA SCHOOL CHILDREN (FEB 23, 2022)

The Glass Promotion Committee met on Feb 23 for yet another meeting in the AIGMF office and to celebrate the International Year of Glass (IYOG2022).

In the open gallery just outside AIGMF office area (812 and 813 New Delhi House, Connaught Place, New Delhi) a select artwork from the touring exhibitions namely ‘Glass in our Lives / Glass Protects and Adopt a Glass Bottle’ was unveiled together by Office Bearers of New Delhi House and AIGMF.

Mr. Vikram Mittal, Treasurer of New Delhi House and Managing Director of Mittal Teas hailed this noble cause and said that it is not only educational but a humble step under the CSR objectives to educate societies on Glass being a sustainable packaging and building material and is in tune with Hon. Prime Minister’s vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (clean India campaign).

The exhibition would remain on view for the whole of 2022 which is yet another project to showcase Indian contribution for the Year of Glass in 2022.

Educational Institutions are invited to be a part of IYOG2022 who in turn could adopt a week or day to celebrate the International year of Glass by organizing activities for the Youth i.e. display of Touring Exhibitions, Debate or Essay writing on Glass as eco-friendly material, Quiz contests, drawing competition, etc. AIGMF Secretariat could be contacted at info@aigmf.com who could provide a suitable speaker and other necessary support as appropriate and to cover your initiatives in quarterly publications Kanch and Glass News for worldwide coverage.

Release of AIGMF 2022 Print Calendar on the theme ‘Glass in our Lives’ (Dec 23, 2021)

President Mr. Bharat Somany, Office Bearers and Former Presidents released AIGMF 2022 print calendar on the theme ‘Glass in our Lives’ at the Glass promotion meeting held at ALOFT New Delhi on Dec 23.

To commemorate International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) invited online entries from the age group between 7-24 years to participate in the ‘1 st  Photography Contest on the theme “Glass in our Lives” wherein 7,000 entries were received from educational institutes and Youth across India. On Sept 10, 2021 Chief Guest Dr. Reinhard Conradt, Vice President and President Elect of the International Commission on Glass unveiled a touring exhibition on 'Glass in our Lives' at the virtual Annual General Meeting of the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF).

Top 3 three winners were given cash prizes. And later the entire project was converted into the 2022 Calendar by covering few best shots.

As the National Apex Body of the Glass Industry, the AIGMF undertakes socially responsible steps as a voluntary service to society, thereby bringing increased awareness of Glass being a safe and 100% recyclable packaging material.

As part of an educative process, Wall and Desk versions of the calendars were distributed to AIGMF Members/Regional Associations, Stakeholders: All Members of Parliament/Govt. of India Secretaries/office of Chief Secretaries/LGs/Administrators/CMs/select GoI contacts/Trade Chambers/Education Secretaries/All FOSG Members/Firozabad/CGCRI contacts/General etc.

Launch of Calendar Glass Bottle 2022 ahead of IYOG2022 (Sept 10, 2021)

In the virtual Executive Committee and Annual General Meetings of the AIGMF held on Sept 10, the President and Office Bearers released the Calendar Glass Bottle 2022 carrying the logo of International Year of Glass (IYOG2022). The bottle has specially been designed by AGI glaspac under the capacity of main partner for all IYOG events to be held in India.

As part of the IYOG2022 promotion, the calendar glass bottle is planned to be despatched by Christmas to all stakeholders i.e., Members of Parliament; GoI Secretaries; office of Chief Secretaries; LGs/Administrators; Chief Ministers; select GoI contacts; Trade Chambers; Education Secretaries; FOSG; AIGMF Members; Regional Associations; Select Universities and Schools; Firozabad; CSIR-CGCRI; BHU; CDGI; General; Overseas Glass Associations and other contacts etc.

These promotional bottles will also be used during the other events in 2022 and wide distribution at glasspex from Mar 3-5 to every exhibitor and select visitors/contacts, etc



Touring Exhibition on 'Glass in our Lives' (Sept 10, 2021)

Chief Guest Dr. Reinhard Conradt, Vice President and President Elect of the International Commission on Glass unveiled a touring exhibition on 'Glass in our Lives' at the virtual Annual General Meeting of the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF). Online entries were invited from the age group between 7-24 years to participate in the 1st Photography Contest, a kickstart event to mark International Year of Glass 2022 activities in India.

A distinguished Jury of Members representing a cross section of glass sectors and regions decided the top 3 photographs out of approx., 7,000 entries received from educational institutes and Youth across India: Mr. Sanjay Somany, Former President AIGMF and CMD HNG Inds.   • The roadshow will travel to other cities showcasing the vital role of Glass, being the only 100% recyclable packaging and building material.

    As a token of appreciation, Lucky 500 photo entries will be given a specially designed empty Glass Bottle made out of recycled glass (manufactured by Hindustan National Glass & Industries Ltd., under its CSR initiative), carrying logos of International Year of Glass 2022 and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Campaign).

    4th AIGMF Glass Awards (Sept 10, 2021)

    AIGMF gave away its 4th prestigious Glass Awards i.e. C K Somany Award for Innovation & Technology and Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports at the online Annual General Meeting held under Pandemic conditions.

    The program was well attended by over 60 senior industry members.

    Former Presidents; Mr. Sanjay Somany and Mr. Mukul Somany gave the prestigious annual ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ to Mr. Udit Kapoor, Director, Kapoor Glass India Pvt Ltd., Mumbai. The ‘Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports’ was bestowed to M/s Borosil Renewables Ltd., by the Former President, Mr. Pradeep Gupta. Both awards are supported by Glass Worldwide, preferred international journal of the AIGMF in association with Kanch.

He completed his Electromechanical Engineering from The University of Southampton in 2004 and has been involved in the family business.     AIGMF at PHDCCI’s Webinar on gas pipeline network in Rajasthan (Aug 20, 2021)

    In the webinar organized on August 20, Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, President, PHDCCI in his address informed that with the completion of Mehsana- Bhatinda Gas Pipeline Project(MBPL).

    It was envisaged that Rajasthan will witness tremendous investment opportunities. It will also make existing industries competitive.

    Mr. Digvijay Dhabriya, Chairman, PHDCCI-Rajasthan Chapter in his welcome address dwelt light on the features on the MBPL pipeline and informed that the pipeline would prove to be a boon to Rajasthan and give tremendous impetus to the industrialization of Rajasthan. He informed that out of a total of 1381 km long MBPL pipeline, 873 km passes through 11 districts of Rajasthan most of them are close to DMIC and rich in various raw materials and agriproducts.

    The chief guest of the webinar Mr. Ashutosh Pednekar, IAS, MD, RIICO, and Industry Secretary, Government of Rajasthan in his address emphasized the importance of the gas pipeline infrastructure in the State for leveraging tremendous investment opportunities especially in Ceramic and Glass, Food Processing, Mineral, Textile, Pharma etc.

    In the webinar, the industry leaders representing prominent beneficiary sectors namely Mr. Bharat Somany, President, The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation, Dr. LK Sharma, President, Indian Ceramic Society, Dr. Subodh Jindal, President, All India Food Processors Association, and Mr. Nilesh Jetpariya, President, Morbi Ceramic Associations shared their wish list from the Gas companies and observed that with this pipeline tremendous investment opportunities would be generated in the State for many sectors.

    All of them requested gas companies to offer competitive prices and flexible contract conditions to the consumers.

    To commemorate International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) invited online entries from the age group between 7-24 years to participate in the ‘1st Photography Contest on the theme “Glass in our Lives”.

    In May 2021, the General Assembly of the UNITED NATIONS approved the Year 2022 as International Year of Glass (IYOG2022). Many Glass related activities are planned worldwide; as a kickstart to these events and a partner organisation in INDIA, AIGMF announced its 1st Photography Contest.

    Friends for Decades… Preferred Partners since 2011 (April 20, 2021)

    At the virtual AIGMF Executive Committee Meeting held on April 20, AIGMF/Glass Worldwide partnership was highlighted over a brief talk.

    Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher of Glass Worldwide made a presentation on the formal cooperation that has been in place since 2011 between AIGMF/Kanch and Glass Worldwide.

    Members were educated on how AIGMF activities were reported globally via Glass Worldwide articles by spreading knowledge in form of factory spotlights, Spotlight features on India, Personality Profiles, Online Library, Collaborative events and initiatives. Members were told about dual benefits as all Indian articles become part of an Online library at AIGMF website and were also reproduced in Kanch for a wider reach.

    AIGMF 2021 Calendar on the theme ‘Glass Protects’ (Oct 31, 2020)

    President Mr. Bharat Somany released AIGMF 2021 calendar on the theme ‘Glass Protects’ at the virtual Executive Committee Meeting held on Oct 31.

    To commemorate International Youth Day, AIGMF invited online entries from children between 7-16 years to participate in the ‘Drawing Competition 3.0’, wherein over 3000 students participated from across India. On Sept 15, 2020, Chief Guest Prof. Alicia Durán (Research Professor CSIC-Spanish National Research Council) and President of the International Commission on Glass, Madrid, SPAIN unveiled a touring exhibition on 'Glass Protects'.

    Top 3 three winners were given cash prizes. And later the entire project was converted into the 2021 Calendar.

    Farewell to Dr. K Muraleedharan, Director Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata (Oct 31, 2020)

    Federation bid farewell to Dr. K Muraleedharan, Director CGCRI at the virtual Executive Committee held on Oct 31, which also happened to be his retirement day at the CGCRI.

    President Mr. Bharat Somany thanked Dr. Muraleedharan for CGCRI’s support, services, and providing venue to the AIGMF wherever required. Mr. Somany said that under Dr. Muraleedharan’s tenure, in the last 5 years AIGMF was very fortunate to have worked closely on some of the important events i.e., ICG related programs at CGCRI, AIGMF Executive Committee meetings, Publications support for Kanch and Glass News, propagating use of glass packaging, glasspex exhibition, Glass Awards, painting competition, etc.

    President and Office Bearers appreciated the support and confidence shown by Dr. Muraleedharan in the activities of the Federation which even got better with CGCRI’s collaboration. Mr. Somany on behalf of the Industry wished Dr. Muraleedharan all the very best for his next assignment in Kerala.

    Virtual Conference on Glass Problems (Oct- 26-30, 2020)

    Owing to Pandemic the 81st Conference on Glass Problems, which was originally scheduled to take place on October 26-29 in Columbus, Ohio, USA, was replaced with a virtual conference between October 26-30. Being accessible via the internet, it allowed participants access to the world’s leading technical experts addressing current problems in glass manufacturing. The program also provided an exhibiting platform for solutions providers to communicate with the industry.

    The Virtual Conference on Glass Problems was organised by the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC), which is the American trade association bridging all segments of glass manufacturing and Alfred University, the USA’s leading glass research institution. It was endorsed by the American Ceramic Society. Glass Worldwide was the official journal.

    World Soda Ash Conference Online (Oct 19-22, 2020)

    AIGMF participated as a supporting association in the World Soda Ash conference which was held online for the 1st time owing to the Pandemic situation.

    President AIGMF, Mr. Bharat Somany was one of the Panellists in Session 4: Prospects for Glass and presented a Summary Overview of Glass Outlook for India on Oct 20.

    Touring Exhibition on 'Glass Protects' (Sept 15, 2020)

    Chief Guest Prof. Alicia Durán (Research Professor CSIC-Spanish National Research Council) and President of International Commission on Glass, Madrid, SPAIN unveiled a touring exhibition on 'Glass Protects' at the Annual General Meeting of the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF).

    Online entries from children between 7-16 years were taken on captioned theme. A jury of former presidents, Mr. Sanjay Somany, Mr. Sanjay Ganjoo & Mr. S.C. Bansal picked the top 3 drawings out of 3,000 entries received from schools across India.

    Dr. K Muraleedharan, Director, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research - Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI), Kolkata felicitated the winning students.

    1st Prize (₹ 15,000) to Tanuj Samaddar aged 15 years, a Class 10 student of SERS Public School District Kamrup (Assam);

    2nd Prize (₹ 10,000) to Priyal Singh aged 13 years, a Class 8 student of Global City International School, Bangalore (Karnataka);

    3rd Prize (₹ 5,000) to S. Christy Laura aged 14 years, a Class 9 student of Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya, Trichy (Tamil Nadu).

    The roadshow will travel to other cities showcasing the vital role of Glass, being the only 100% recyclable packaging and building material.

    As a token of appreciation, the first 200 entrants to the drawing competition were presented with a glass water bottle showcasing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Campaign) Logo (courtesy of HNG & Ind. Ltd).

    3rd AIGMF Glass Awards (Sept 15, 2020)

    In recognition of the tremendous contribution to the Indian Glass Industry, The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) gave away its 3rd prestigious Glass Awards i.e. C K Somany Award for Innovation & Technology and Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports at its 1 st ever online Annual General Meeting held under Pandemic conditions.

    The program was well attended by over 60 senior industry members.

    Prof. Alicia Durán (Research Professor CSIC-Spanish National Research Council) and President of International Commission on Glass, Madrid, SPAIN was the Chief Guest who also unveiled a touring exhibition on 'Glass Protects'. Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher, Glass Worldwide, London (UK) also attended as one of the Jury Members.

    Former Presidents; Mr. Sanjay Somany and Mukul Somany gave the prestigious annual ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ to Dr. Mukul Chandra Paul, Sr. Principal Scientist, CGCRI, Kolkata.

    The ‘Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports’ was bestowed to M/s La Opala RG Ltd., by the Former President, Mr. Pradeep Gupta. Both awards are supported by Glass Worldwide, preferred international journal of the AIGMF in association with Kanch.

    Dr. Mukul Chandra Paul is a senior OSA member along with IEEE and life member of Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) and Indian Ceramic Society (ICS). He holds 7 U.S. patents, 4 Indian patents and published 7 book chapters, edited two books on ‘Fiber Laser’ and authored over 300 SCI papers in peer-reviewed journals and Conferences. Dr. Paul has received many awards, including BOYSCAST Fellowship from DST, IEEE Photonic Distinguished Lecture Award by Multimedia University, Malaysia, CSIR Technology Award for Innovation, Senior Visiting Scientist award by National Taiwan University of Technology (NTUT), Taiwan, to name a few.

    Opala RG Ltd., introduced Opal Glass technology to India in the year 1988. Since then, it has progressed to captivate lifestyle consumers, with an impressive supply chain that caters to over 40 Countries, besides being a household name in India”.

    Drawing Competition 3.0- Glass Protects (August 12, 2020)

    To commemorate International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) invited online entries from children between 7-16 years to participate in the ‘Drawing Competition 3.0’ on the theme “Glass Protects”.

    Former Presidents, Mr. Sanjay Somany, Mr. Sanjay Ganjoo and Mr. S C Bansal were jury members who judged top 3 drawings out of 3,000 entries received from schools across India.

    Webinar on National Building Code (NBC 2016): Glass and Glazing Aspects (June 24, 2020)

    “Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Glazing Society of India (GSI) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras had jointly organised the first webinar on National Building Code 2016: Glass and Glazing Aspects on June 24, 2020. The webinar was supported by AIGMF (The All India Glass Manufacturers Federation), CCPS (Confederation of Construction Products & Services), FOSG (Federation of Safety Glass), UWDMA (uPVC Windows and Doors Manufacturers Association) and Glass Academy.

    Mr. J Roy Chowdhury, Deputy Director General, BIS presided the webinar as Chief Guest and delivered the Inaugural Address. He emphasised on the importance of Standardization of Materials and the significance and need of National Building Code for the Country. Mr. Sanjay Pant, Head, Civil Engg, BIS gave an overview on the National Building Code 2016 and Mr. Arun Kumar, Scientist D, Civil Engg, BIS gave a deeper insight into the topic of Glass and Glazing in the National Building Code. Prof. (Dr.) Arul Jayachandran, Professor, Structural Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering IIT Madras made the presentation on “Structural Design and Selection of Glazing system”. Professor briefed the participants on the implementation of NBC in Glazing Systems related to Structural Aspects. Mr. Sandeep Goel, Director, Proion Consultants made a presentation on the Fire and Life Safety aspects of Glass and Glazing. Mr. G N Gohul Deepak, Director, Glazing Society of India made the Welcome Remarks and Mr. Arun Kumar did the vote of thanks for the session.

    The webinar was attended by participants comprising Architects, Civil Engineers, Builders, Developers, Consultants, Contractors, Glass Processors, Manufacturers, Govt Officials, Academia and Other professionals. There was an interactive question and answer session between speakers and the attendees after each presentation and the webinar was well appreciated by the participants.

    India’s First Natural Gas Trading Platform – Indian Gas Exchange (IGX): PPT at AIGMF Ex Com (May 30, 2020)

    Mr. Vikas Guliani – VP (BD & Regulatory) made a presentation on India’s first online natural gas trading platform at the Executive Committee Meeting of the AIGMF held virtually on May 30, 2020.

    Mr. Guliani shared that Indian Energy Exchange with its 11 years’ experience in power trading, over 6,500 registered participants and 97% market share is launching a gas trading platform, Indian Gas Exchange (IGX). It was told that the exchange will be a nationwide automated spot gas trading platform for physical delivery of natural gas and is expected to go live shortly. Glass manufacturers can purchase gas competitively under multiple contracts such as Day-Ahead, Daily, Weekly, Weekday, Fortnightly and Monthly. IGX will launch three physical trading hubs in the first phase - Dahej, Hazira and Kakinada. The exchange will offer both ex-hub and delivered contracts.

    The main benefits of the exchange to the glass manufacturing fraternity will be its competitive price discovery through a robust uniform price double side close auction mechanism along with other benefits: - Transparent Price Discovery: Gas purchase through a transparent mechanism in INR - Flexible Products: Multiple products provide option to purchase gas for next day up to one-month duration - Delivery Facilitation: The exchange will offer ex-hub and also facilitate delivered transactions Mr. Guliani informed that several Glass manufacturers have already registered with the Indian Gas Exchange. IGX is expected to go live shortly and at present Annual Fees has been waived off for clients for FY 20-21 in case registration process is completed by June 30, 2020.

    First-ever Virtual Executive Committee Meeting of the AIGMF (April 20, 2020)

    Due to the current developments regarding COVID-19, first-ever virtual Ex Com Meeting was held on April 20. The meeting was held over the video-conference facility as the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has allowed companies to use video meets, other audio-visual means.

    The Executive Committee of the AIGMF also met virtually on May 30 and June 29 to discuss Industry issues including the Pandemic situation. On April 20, Mr. Manas Kumar Chaudhuri, Competition Law Practice at Khaitan & Co, was invited to apprise members on the use of the communication both during now and later, extra care be needed to communicate via WhatsApp/Zoom/Digital platform, etc.

    AIGMF 2020 Calendars on the Theme ‘Adopt a Glass Bottle’ (Dec 21, 2019)

    Former Presidents Mr. Sanjay Ganjoo, Mr. S C Bansal and Mr. Sanjay Somany released AIGMF 2020 calendars on the theme ‘Adopt a Glass Bottle’ at the Executive Committee Meeting held on Dec 21 at Hotel Lemon Tree, Delhi.

    Calendars are based on select drawings made by school children, on the theme of Glass Packaging being Environmentally Friendly and aiding the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Campaign).

    Pac-Process & Food-Pex INDIA (Dec 12-14, 2019)

    The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation participated as a supporting association in the Pac-Process India and Food-Pex India trade fair organised by Messe Dusseldorf (India).

    9,925 visitors came to the Pragati Maidan exhibition centre in New Delhi from December 12-14 – around 2,000 more than attended the debut in India’s capital two years ago. 201 exhibitors presented their offerings across a total of 11,400 sq. mtrs.

    At the second Packaging Design, Innovation and Technology conference (PDIT2), 35 speakers offered visitors a substantial wealth of knowledge. The topics ranged from packaging design and sustainability to smart packaging. India is also affected by the growing pressure on the industry to ensure packaging is recyclable and reusable. At the same time, the food industry benefits from more sustainability, thanks to the increasing use of packaging that extends shelf-lives, reduces food waste and increases food safety. PDIT2 aspired to provide sound information on each topic and to avoid superficial sales presentations. The conference was organised by IPP Star in cooperation with the Active & Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA) and in its second year, PDIT2 was held in New Delhi for the first time.

    Pac-Process India and Food-Pex India events were supported by a wide range of associations, some of which are national, among them the Authentication Solution Providers’ Association – ASPA, the Plastics Machinery Manufacturers Association of India – PMMAI, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation – AIGMF, the Trade Promotion Council of India – TPCI, and the Indian Paper Corrugated & Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association – ICPMA. International associations were also involved, among them the VDMA, the Metal Containers Manufacturers Association – MCMA, Flexible Packaging Europe, the Istanbul Chemical & Chemical Product Exporters’ Association – IKMIB, the Global Aluminium Foil Roller Initiative as well as amec envasgraf and CCPIT.

    6th glasspex India and 3rd glasspro India 2019 (Oct 10-12, 2019)

    The 6th edition of glasspex INDIA & 3rd edition of glasspro INDIA, organized by Messe Dusseldorf (India) in conjunction with Glass Bulletin was held from October 10-12, 2019 at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

    The event gave proof to be a one of-its-kind show in the glass sector and as the most comprehensive and reputed global platform where India’s key industry players of the flat glass, container glass & table ware came together to discuss industry trends, challenges and market insights including the Indian regulatory framework. Both trade shows presented product launches, innovations and augmented the forethought through the exhibition, its conference and a special Award night.

    glasspex INDIA & glasspro INDIA witnessed the participation of 195 companies from 14 countries, bringing together 5,547 trade visitors and 150 conference delegates.

    13th International Conference of the AIGMF (Oct 10-11, 2019)

    Parallel to glasspex and glasspro India shows, AIGMF organised its 13th bi-annual international conference on Oct 10-11, 2019.

    The Conference on Glass Industry 4.0 was supported by the Glass Worldwide Magazine and powered by VDMA & Messe Dusseldorf (India).

    The 13th edition of glass conference program included various industry discussions, new insights pertaining to the sector and best practices. The conference topics included:

    AIGMF at VITRUM 2019 (Oct 1-4, 2019)

    On an invitation by the Secretariat, VITRUM 2019 (International Trade Fair for machinery, equipment and systems for flat and hollow glass, glass and finished products for the industry), President Mr. Raj Kumar Mittal participated at Fiera Milano, Italy from Oct 1-4, 2019.

    The 2019 edition saw Vitrum's role as the “Home of Associations” strengthened, again offering Associations participation for networking. AIGMF was amongst 22 Associations from 17 countries who participated with the cost of travel and lodging covered by the Italian Trade Agency.

    2nd AIGMF Glass Awards (Sept 27, 2019)

    At the platinum jubilee of AIGMF on Sept 27 at The Ashok, New Delhi, the Chief Guest , Hon. Minister of State for Jal Shakti as well as Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Rattan Lal Kataria gave the AIGMF Glass Awards- ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ to Mr. B.L. Kheruka of Gujarat Borosil Ltd., and ‘Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports’ to M/s Firozabad Glass Shell Industries.

    Mr. B.L. Kheruka, born in 1930 is a pioneer in the glass industry. The Chairman of India's leading specialty glass manufacturing group, Borosil Glass Works Ltd., he presides over multiple verticals, including laboratory-ware pharma packaging (comprising of vials and ampoules), consumer goods and solar glass.

    Mr. Raj Kumar Mittal, President AIGMF said, "Firozabad Glass Shell Industries has been engaged in the manufacture of Doubled Walled Glass Refills (Glass Liners) for Vacuum Flasks since its inception in 1980. FGSI is today the largest Manufacturer - Exporter of Glass Refills from India with a share of about 65% of India's export of this product. The company is owned by Mr. Ram Kishore Gupta, Mr. Dharmendra Mohan Gupta and Mr. Sunil Mohan Gupta, who have long experience of over 3 decades in different spheres of glass production”.

    Platinum Jubilee of AIGMF (Sept 27, 2019)

    Parallel to Annual General and Executive Committee Meetings, AIGMF celebrated its platinum jubilee on Sept 27 at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

    Hon. Minister of State for Jal Shakti as well as Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Rattan Lal Kataria, was the Chief Guest. Mr. Manish Asija, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh) accompanied the Hon. Minister showcasing full zeal and commitment for the Glass Industry.

    A roadshow on 'Adopt a Glass Bottle' was kicked-off, displaying select drawings by school children on Glass Packaging aiding the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign), a vision set by the Hon. Prime Minister on the path laid by Mahatma Gandhi. Along with the paintings, an exhibition of glass water bottles and other packaging solutions were also put on display. The roadshow will travel to other cities showcasing the vital role of Glass, being the only 100% recyclable packaging material.

    The Hon. Minister also gave the prestigious AIGMF Glass Awards- ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ to Mr. B.L. Kheruka of Gujarat Borosil Ltd., and ‘Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports’ to M/s Firozabad Glass Shell Industries.

    As a CSR initiative, The AIGMF gifted 100 Glass Water Bottles with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Logo to The Ashok Hotel. Also, as a token of appreciation, the first 100 drawing competition entrants were gifted a glass water bottle with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Campaign) Logo, (manufactured by Hindustan National Glass & Industries Ltd).

    Touring Exhibition on 'Adopt a Glass Bottle' (Sept 27, 2019)

    Indian Green Building Congress 2019 (Sept 25 – 28, 2019)

    AIGMF participated as a Supporting Association in CII’s-IGBC Green Building Congress 2019 which was held from September 25-28, 2019 at HICC, Hyderabad.

    The event evoked grand response from the delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and other stakeholders. GBC 2019 provided an excellent platform to network, learn and explore new business opportunities for all the delegates. The event saw 6,300 visitors, 2000 delegates with participation of 120 Exhibitors.

    The annual Green Building Congress is a platform where National and International stakeholders converge to share, learn and explore new growth opportunities in the areas of green buildings and sustainability,

    While inaugurating the 17th edition of the CII-IGBC Green Building Congress 2019, Her Excellency Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, underlined the need and importance of conserving the environment and cultivating a mind-set of responsible and sustainable development. Make green as a way of life and appreciate the bounty of nature, the Hon’ble Governor said.

    The three-day event featured an international conference and an exhibition where over 100 companies showcased their green building products and technologies. Over the three days, the event featured several conferences and programmes, including a conference on GreenPro, a conference on Green Rail, a conference on green hotels and resorts, a training programme on green buildings, a programme for IGBC project awards, and a programme on advancing Net Zero.

    Telangana, State government is making a determined effort in transforming the state into a holistically sustainable state, said Minister for Roads and Buildings, Legislative Affairs and Housing Mr. Vemula Prashanth Reddy at the event.

    Drawing Competition 2.0- Adopt a Glass Bottle (August 12, 2019)

    To commemorate International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) invited online entries from children between 7-16 years to participate in “Drawing Competition 2.0” on the theme “Adopt a Glass Bottle”.

    Former Presidents, Mr. Sanjay Somany and Mr. S C Bansal were jury members who adjudged top 3 drawings out of approx. 2000 entries received from all over India.

    • 1st Prize (Rs. 10,000) was given to Archisha Shyam aged 13 years, 8th class student of Orchids International School, (Jalahalli) Bangalore
    • 2nd Prize (Rs. 7,000) was given to Pranav Singh aged 11 years, 6th class student of Bal Bharti School, Bahadurgarh (Haryana)
    • 3rd Prize (Rs. 5,000) was given to Swastik Saha aged 10 years, 5th class student of Bal Bharti School, Bahadurgarh (Haryana)

    AIGMF delegation visit to Port of Duqm, Sultanate of Oman (March 11-12, 2019)

    On an invitation by Port of Duqm Company S.A.O.C, Sultanate of Oman, AIGMF delegation visited Port of Duqm from March 11-12 to explore investment opportunities for Indian Glass Companies. Earlier, Mr. Hilal-Al-Balushi of Port of Duqm Company S.A.O.C (PDC), Sultanate of Oman and their team gave a presentation on Creating a Hub- FOR THE FUTURE at AIGMF Executive Committee meeting in Dec in Hyderabad.

    The delegation was led by President AIGMF along with representative members from container and solar glass segments. On March 11th, delegation paid a courtesy call to Indian Ambassador in Muscat, Mr. Munu Mahawar who was briefed about the visit. Mr. Mahawar offered support of the Embassy that may be required by AIGMF. Meeting with Ambassador was followed by briefing/Presentation by Port of Duqm officials at their headquarters in Muscat before group departed to Port of Duqm.

    A guided tour of the Special Economic Zone, Industrial Land being developed by Duqm Industrial Land Company (DILC), a subsidiary of PDC, logistics land as well as the Port terminal itself, was arranged by the PDC team at Duqm. This tour also included the visit to the site allocated for Glass and Ceramic hub.

    A site visit to Majan Glass in Sohar was also arranged. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Asit Chawla of MAJAN GLASS COMPANY SAOG welcomed the delegation and arranged a guided tour of their manufacturing unit.

    AIGMF thanked Port of Duqm officials for their very kind hospitality and excellent arrangements made during their stay at Oman

    Workshop on How can India become Glass capital of the World? (Feb 22, 2019)

    Parallel to the Executive Committee meeting of the AIGMF held on Feb 22nd at Vadodara, a workshop was kept to debate on How to make India, a hub for glass manufacturing?

    More than 50 industry representatives from member and non-members companies participated at the Gateway hotel in Vadodara, hosted by Piramal Glass Ltd.

    Mr. Rajesh Khosla, Executive Committee Member AND President & CEO AGI glaspac gave a presentation on How to make India a Glass Hub which set the tone for discussions. It was felt that a similar workshop or conference be organised involving major stakeholders and international speakers at the glasspex India exhibition to be held from Oct 10-12, 2019 at Mumbai.

    Opportunities for Indian Glass Companies at Port of Duqm Company S.A.O.C, Sultanate of Oman (Dec 1, 2018)

    Mr. Hilal Al Balushi of Port of Duqm Company S.A.O.C, Sultanate of Oman and their team gave a presentation on Creating a Hub- FOR THE FUTURE.

    It was told that Port of Duqm is a new sea port situated on the south-eastern seaboard of Sultanate of Oman. The Port of Duqm Company SAOC (PDC) is a joint venture between the Government of Oman and a Belgian consortium comprised of Port of Antwerp (Europe’s second largest sea-port) and Rent-A-Port (a company specialized in port development and management).     AIGMF at glasstec, Dusseldorf, Germany (October 23-26, 2018)

    AIGMF participated in glasstec from October 23-26, 2018 at Dusseldorf, Germany.

    At the 25th anniversary event the glass industry presented itself in high spirits and top investment shape thereby impressively confirming the position of glasstec as a leading trade fair and premiere platform for the international glass sector.

    More than 42,000 visitors from over 120 countries came to Düsseldorf to convince themselves of the innovative power of this industry.

    1,280 exhibitors from 50 countries showcased their product highlights in nine halls. Exhibitors unanimously reported promising new contacts and concluding good to very good business deals. The favourable situation in the industry was also reflected by the positive atmosphere in the halls.

    AIGMF put up its stall # 13A42 to promote activities of the Federation by distributing complimentary copies of Kanch, Glass News, Guidelines on use of Glass in Buildings – Human Safety, Book on Glass: A Sustainable Building and Packaging Material.

    AIGMF also participated in the 3rd Global Container Glass Forum held parallelly with glasstec on Oct 25th which was organised by FEVE (FEVE is the association of European manufacturers of glass packaging containers and machine-made glass tableware) at Deutsche Messe Board Room, Messe Dusseldorf Headquarters.

    Glasspro India (Sept 7-9, 2018)

    glasspro India 2018, the International Exhibition for Flat Glass Processing, Products and Accessories was held from September 7 - 9, 2018 at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, India. The event was co-organized by Messe Duesseldorf India and Glass Bulletin.

    The event received full cooperation from supporting associations such as The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF), Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS), Builders Association of India, The Madras Glass & Plywood Merchants Association, Chhattisgarh Glass Association, Ludhiana Glass Dealers Association and Noida Glass Traders Association for the excellent execution of the exhibition.

    The 3-day event brought together all the industry experts, professionals and technocrats related to flat glass industry in order to exchange ideas and to drive the sector forward.

    The 2nd Edition of glasspro India 2018 over 3 days witnessed a participation of around 100 exhibitors from 5 countries attracting 4428 business visitors.     15th Municipalika Exhibition & Conference (Sept 19-21, 2018)

    The 15th Municipalika Exhibition & International Conference was held in Mumbai from Sept 19-21 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre under the banner of ‘Future Cities’ – an exposition of technologies, products and services for urban development.

    Municipalika 2018 was inaugurated by Mr. Mahendra Jain, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Karnataka and Ar. Divya Kush, President, Indian Institute of Architects. H.E. Nadir Patel, High Commissioner for Canada to India, was also present at Municipalika’s inaugural session, sharing Canada’s experience in building world-class cities and underscoring Canada’s commitment to India.

    The event saw participation of over 200 delegates in the conference segment, from over 300 Indian cities and towns and abroad and professional visitors in the exhibition segment, including ministers, mayors, municipal commissioners, urban local bodies, CEOs of Smart Cities and parastatals, along with technology providers, professionals and all urban stakeholders. Faculty and students of architecture, engineering, technology and management institutions are participating to get exposure on the latest trends.

    The 15th Municipalika 2018 provided a mega-networking forum for governments, experts, entrepreneurs and service providers to collectively find solutions to urban challenges.     With the ongoing Urban Transformation process for 100 Smart Cities, 500 AMRUT Cities, PMAY-Housing for All, Swachh Bharat Mission, the event provided an opportunity to discuss strategies, best practices and display of technologies, equipment and solutions for implementing these agendas across the country including ease of doing business.

    The three-day long conference also included sessions on Resilient and Secure Cities, Healthy Cities, Green Cities, Connected Cities, Digital Cities and on Integrated Cities for self-contained cities. The Humane Cities session deliberated on the Housing For All Agenda, progress achieved and the path forward for achieving the goal by 2022.

    Interactive Session on Industry-related Risk and Opportunities (Aug 17, 2018)

    Parallel to AIGMF meetings, an Interactive Session on Industry-related Risk and Opportunities was organized on Aug 17 at Hotel Pride Plaza, Aerocity, Near T3 Terminal, Delhi. The session covered presentations on Competition Law by Mr. Manas Kr. Chaudhuri, Partner, Khaitan & Co., and Anti-Dumping/Indirect Tax by Mr. Kabir Bogra, Partner (Indirect Tax) Khaitan & Co.

    Mr. Chaudhuri covered following main topics in his presentation- Overview of the Competition Act, 2002, Issues of Glass Industry, Decisional Practice, Overlapping Laws – Risks and Way Forward.

    Mr. Bogra spoke about Reforms in GST Rates Since 01 July 2017, Antidumping/Safeguard Remedies, GST: Current and Emerging Issues.

    AIGMF Glass Awards (Aug 17, 2018)

    1st AIGMF Glass Awards; C K Somany Award for Innovation and Technology; and Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports were presented on Aug 17 alongside AIGMF’s Annual General and Executive Meetings.

    Supported by Glass Worldwide, the C K Somany Glass Award was conceived to recognise the exceptional contribution to the Indian glass industry made over many decades by Mr. Somany of HNG, who passed away in May 2017 having headed India’s principal glass manufacturing group for more than 60 years.

    Acknowledging his valuable contribution in the fields of technology, manufacturing, innovation, services and education, an appointed panel of jury members unanimously opined in favour of Mr. Sushil Jhunjhunwala, Vice Chairman of La Opala RG Ltd., as the first winner of the C K Somany Glass Award. Members of the Jhunjhunwala family have been actively involved in the Indian glass industry for more than eight decades, with Mr. Sushil Jhunjhunwala having personally served the industry for 50 years. In addition to being a key personality at La Opala, a specialist Indian producer of opal and lead crystal tableware, Mr. Jhunjhunwala served with distinction as President of the AIGMF and the Eastern India Glass Manufacturers’ Association (EIGMA).

    The accompanying Balkrishna Gupta Award honours Mr. Gupta as founder of the Advance Group of Glass Industries in Firozabad. With more than 70 years of experience of running many glass manufacturing units in Firozabad, Mr. Gupta also served as President of the AIGMF and Uttar Pradesh Glass Manufacturers' Syndicate (UPGMS).

    Awarded the Balakrishna Gupta Award in recognition of a valuable contribution in glass exports, Piramal Glass Pvt. Ltd., is a global specialist in glass packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, perfumery and specialty food and beverage sectors. With headquarters in Mumbai and manufacturing plants in Gujarat as well as Horana in Sri Lanka, Piramal Glass has proven particularly successful in the export market, supplying, for example, 50% of the world’s nail varnish bottles.

    The jury, who convened at CSIR-CGCRI, Kolkata in July 2018 to determine the winners of both awards, was:

    Interactive session on Role of Publications in Brand Promotion (July 25, 2018)

    AIGMF along with Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute and Indian Ceramic Society organised an interactive session on Role of Publications in Brand Promotion on July 25th at CGCRI, Kolkata.

    Soda Ash for Glass Manufacturing (May 26, 2018)

    Parallel to Ex Com meeting, a special session on Soda Ash for Glass Manufacturing was organised wherein Ms. Marguerite Morrin, Executive Director Chemicals, IHS Markit, London was invited as guest speaker who gave presentations on Global Overview on Soda Ash and Soda Ash & the Environment.     A glass bottle (specially manufactured by Hindustan National Glass and Industries Ltd.) with World Enviornment Day and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan logos was launched enabling people demand responsible and safe packaging.

    Update on LCA study on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of “Container Glass” in India (May 26, 2018)

    AIGMF released an update on LCA study on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of “Container Glass” in India. This update was done for its earlier study released in 2012, which provides the foundation for meaningful use of LCA results and to portray green image of the product amongst consumers and other stakeholders.

    World of Fenestration 2018 (Feb 23, 2018)

    Special Session with Competition Commission of India (Feb 24, 2018)

    A special session with Competition Commission of India was held parallel to the Executive Committee Meeting held on Feb 24, 2018 at Hotel Parador, Raja ka Tal, Agra Road, NH-2, Firozabad.

    Mr. Raj Kumar Mittal, Sr. Vice President AIGMF and President UPGMS welcomed the Hon., MLA Firozabad, Mr. Manish Asija, Govt. of UP, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest for the daylong event.

    Mr. Rajinder Kumar, Joint Director General, Competition Commission of India gave the Presentation on Competition Law for Trade Associations and Enterprises. Mr. Kumar’s interactive presentation covered the following main topics- What is Competition Law, Benefits of Competition, Applicability of Competition Law, Competition Act- 2002, Enforcement, How to file information, Do’s and Don’ts.

    USGBC's Greenbuild India: (Nov 2 – 5, 2017)

    For the first time, Greenbuild International Conference & Expo was held in Mumbai from Nov 2-5, 2017 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

    Greenbuild India 2017 was held in partnership with the ABEC Exhibitions & Conferences Ltd. (ABEC), which brought together Indian and global industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building, making Greenbuild India the ideal space to learn about ground-breaking green building products, services and technologies in the region.

    Greenbuild India Conference was held on 2 & 3 Nov 2017. AIGMF participated as one of the supporting associations at its stall # J-27.

    AIGMF organised a special session with U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) parallel to its Executive Committee held on Nov 04, 2017 at Hall 7A. A Guided tour of the exhibition was organised by U.S Green Building Council exclusively for AIGMF Members.

    Post lunch, presentations were given by Ms. Priyanka Kochhar, Regional Manager, Green Business Certification Institute (GBCI) on Green Buildings for Everyone and by Mr. Senthil Kumar Somasundaram, Asahi India Glass on Glass in Smart Development.

    AIGMF gifted 50 glass bottles to USGBC as part of its ongoing commitment for Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (clean India campaign).

    Indiapack Pacprocess 2017 (October 26-27, 2017)

    Messe Dusseldorf India (MDI) and the Institute of Indian Packaging (IIP) jointly organising ‘Indiapack Packprocess’ at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from Oct 26-27, 2017.

    212 exhibitors occupied around 11,000 square metres of exhibition space and attracted 9,699 trade visitors. In addition, 600 delegates visited the parallel, International Summit for the Packaging Industry (ISPI), organised by the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP).

    Exhibitors were full of praise about the show and were satisfied with the outcome of the trade fair.

    Indian Green Building Congress 2017 (October 4 – 7, 2017)

    Jaipur hosted the 15th edition of CII’s Green Building Congress from October 4-7, 2017 in Hotel Clarkes Amer, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

    AIGMF participated as one of the supporting associations. A stall # 35 was allocated to AIGMF where in special issue of Kanch, Guidelines on Use of Glass in Buildings from Human Safety Aspect, Glass - A Sustainable Building and Packaging Material and Indian Glass Directory 2017 were made available to visitors.

    CII-IGBC Green Building Congress 2017 hosted over 2000 delegates, with representation from 31-member countries of the World Green Building Council. The event featured an exhibition on technologies and processes transforming the global construction industry, with footfall of 5,000 visitors. There were exclusive sessions on incorporating sustainability and green elements into buildings serving the healthcare, schools, homes, affordable housing and data centers arenas, along with panel discussion with key industry leaders and financial institutions.

    Mr. Senthil Kumar Somasundaram of Asahi India Glass and Member AIGMF gave a presentation on Usage of Glass specific to green hospitals.

    Solar Rooftop with Special Focus on BOO/BOOT Model and Industrial Gas for Glass Manufacturers (August 18, 2017)

    Presentations on Solar Rooftop with Special Focus on BOO/BOOT Model and Industrial Gas for Glass Manufacturers were organized parallel with Ex Com/Annual General Meetings of the AIGMF.

    Mr. Akshai Raja from CleanMax Solar, made a presentation on Solar Rooftop with Special Focus on BOO/BOOT Model. CleanMax Solar founded in 2011, has successfully installed more than 200 projects across 50 plus corporate clients. CleanMax Solar also built Karnataka’s first open access solar farm, of 30MW capacity in Tumkur district and now operates multiple solar farms to supply to corporate consumers on an open access basis across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The company develops projects on a turnkey basis, providing power on a per-kWh basis, under long-term Power Purchase Agreements, at rates cheaper than grid tariffs.

    Mrs. Lavina Gadodia, Shanghai Chinllenge Gas Co., Ltd. made a presentation on Industrial Gas for Glass Manufacturers. Shanghai Chinllenge Gases Co. Ltd (SCGC), founded in 2001, is a professional gas company mainly engaged in on-site gas production. Currently one of the gas companies that enjoy the largest share in the on-site gas market segment, SCGC provides total solutions for gas plants. SCGC has successfully raised the efficiency of the gas plants and lowered running costs for its customers. It is committed to be a professional gas company capable of providing customers with high quality on-site services relying on its abundant experience in equipment integration and application technology in the fields of electronics, glass, shipbuilding, metal processing etc.

    Conference on Role of Packaging in Promoting Food Safety and Security (February 27-28, 2017)

    International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) organized a Conference on “Role of Packaging in Promoting Food Safety and Security” on February 27-28, 2017 in New Delhi. The Conference discussed innovative packaging solutions and their usage, safety assessment of packaging materials, and their impact on environment as also waste management issues, regulations and guidelines. Strategy for adopting of safe packaging for promoting food safety and food security and environment protection was also discussed.

    It was underlined that there have been many technological breakthroughs in recent years in food packaging. New packaging materials have been developed to ensure that they are beneficial throughout the life cycle, they are designed to meet market criteria for performance and cost, they are manufactured using clean production technologies and best practices, they are made from materials suitable in all probable end-of-life scenarios, they are physically designed to optimize materials and energy usage and can be effectively recovered mechanically, biologically or as energy.

    Mr. Vinay Saran, Executive Committee Member AIGMF and Sr. Vice President Marketing, Hindusthan National Glass and Industries Ltd., presented a paper on Role of Glass Packaging in Promoting Safety & Security for consumers.

    His presentation covered necessary qualities for packing material – DO’s and DON’Ts, packaging material needs to be protective, evaluating Glass as primary packaging for safety & security, Glass – what & why, Packaging: A safety perspective of Glass packaging, LCA Study on container glass in India – key findings, water footprint – Glass has minimal impact and Glass – Most environment friendly packaging.

    The Conference was addressed by 30 senior Government officials and a galaxy of renowned scientists and experts from industry. The Government officials who graced the Conference included Mr. Ashish Bahuguna, Chairperson, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) GoI; Mr. Pawan Agarwal, CEO, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) GoI; Dr. Inderjit Singh, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI; Dr. Ajit Kumar, Vice Chancellor, National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Sonepat; Dr. N C Saha, Director, Indian Institute of Packaging; Prof. Alok Dhawan, Director, Institute of Toxicological Research, and Dr. S K Saxena, Director, Export Inspection Council.     The 5th GLASSPEX and 1st GLASSPRO India (Feb 23-25, 2017)

    The 5th GLASSPEX and 1st GLASSPRO exhibitions were held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh, INDIA) from Feb 23-25, 2017.

    The bi-annual Glasspex show returned to NCR ever since its launch 2009 event in New Delhi at state of the art facility at India Expo Mart to promote Glass usage in Northern India after its recent successful shows in Mumbai.

    The new event glasspro INDIA - International Exhibition for Flat Glass Processing and Products showcased the latest trends and innovations in flat and processed glass products and applications. Also on display were most up-to-date glass processing solutions, tools, auxiliary products and services.

    The event attracted exhibitors from 16 countries (India, Germany, France, Italy, UK, Mexico, Belgium, Singapore, China, Czech Republic, Austria, Russia, Poland, Portugal, Finland and the U.S.) and 130+ exhibitors.

    12th AIGMF’s International Conference on What Can Glass Do for You? (Feb 24-25, 2017)

    At the backdrop of Glasspex and Glasspro exhibitions and under the aegis of The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF), a comprehensive 2-day Conference on What Can Glass Do for You? was staged from Feb 24-25, 2017, at Knowledge Park, Greater Noida. This conference was in continuation of a series of one-day meetings and seminars, as well as two-day conferences that have been organized by AIGMF during the last few years, particularly in connection with the Glasspex-India Exhibition in the presence and with participation of International Visitors. Here is another attempt on various aspects of glass science and technology.

    The AIGMF conference saw multiple stakeholder partner involvement from Federation of Safety Glass (FOSG), Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS), Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI), Glazing Society of India (GSI) and Glass Worldwide. The event was supported by glass and its related companies i.e. HNGIL, HNG Float, Nirmal Glasstech Industries, Dukhiram Maurya Engineering Company, La Opala RG Ltd. and Mascot Engineering.

Industry experts from the areas of mechanical engineering, glass production, processing and finishing, skilled crafts, architecture/construction as well as window/façade and solar systems were very satisfied with their participation: exhibitors unanimously reported concluding good business deals, promising contacts and an upbeat mood in the global glass sector, a fact expected to generate profitable follow-up business.

    AIGMF distributed complimentary copies of Kanch, Guidelines on use of Glass in Buildings – Human Safety and Book on Glass: A Sustainable Building and Packaging Material.

    AIGMF also participated in the 2nd Global Container Glass Forum held parallelly with glasstec on September 20, 2016 which was organised by FEVE (FEVE is the association of European manufacturers of glass packaging containers and machine-made glass tableware) at Deutsche Messe Board Room, Messe Dusseldorf Headquarters on September 20.

    The meeting provided an ideal platform for global associations to come together for the promotion of container glass vis-à-vis health and environmental reasons.

    Enhancing Profitability by Empowering Workforce and Business Opportunities for Indian Glass Companies at Port of Duqm, Sultanate of Oman (Sept 2, 2016)

    Along with Ex Com and AGM on Sept 2nd, presentations on Empowering Workforce by ‘Leadership Management International’ and Investment Opportunities for Glass Companies at Port of Duqm, Sultanate of Oman were delivered at New Delhi.

    Mr. Ashok Thussu and Mr. Rohit Nayar from LMI (Leadership Management International) made a presentation that if employees feel empowered, they work harder, faster, smarter, become more dedicated and enjoy their jobs more. Empowering employees can have significant results in terms of increasing the productivity and consequently the profitability of the organisation.

    Mr. Erwin Erwin Mortelmans, Commercial Director, Port of Duqm Company S.A.O.C made a presentation on the Duqm Project as flagship of the Sultanate’s 2020 Vision. The project is the biggest Special Economic Zone in the Middle East fully integrating residential, industrial, touristic and infrastructural developments under one umbrella. The immense size of the project allows for the establishment of various mega projects, but clearly aims also to attract various medium and small scaled industries. The glass industry is one of the particular industries Duqm aims to emphasize on: key raw materials and energy sources are already available or are scheduled to be produced on the short to mid-term.

    Interactive Session- Glass Packaging supporting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (June 25, 2016).

    The Executive Committee of the AIGMF met on June 25, 2016 at Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI), Kolkata

    A parallel session on Glass Packaging supporting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organized with CSIR-CGCRI, which provided an opportunity to debate on use of glass packaging as responsible and safe packaging, which supports Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (clean India campaign).

    As CSR initiative, AIGMF gifted 400 glass water bottles specially manufactured by Hindustan National Glass and Industries to CSIR-CGCRI and 100 glass bottles to Health & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of West Bengal. The bottles carried a logo of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan enabling people demand responsible and safe packaging.

    About 80 participants from CSIR-CGCRI, Glass Industry, media, scientists, etc. attended the event.

    Glass as vital building material for Smart/Solar Cities and Book Launch: "Glass - A Sustainable Building and Packaging Material" (March 12, 2016)

    The Executive Committee of the AIGMF met on March 12, 2016 at Hotel Sea Princess, Mumbai

    An exclusive session on Glass as vital building material for Smart and Solar Cities was organized with active support of CPWD and other stakeholders in association with Western India Glass Manufacturers’ Association (WIGMA).

    The session provided an opportunity to debate on use of Glass as a Green Building Material. Presentations were given on Smart Approach in Using Performance Glass to Design Smart Cities, Why Glass is here to Stay and to Grow, Smart Solar Glass for Smart and Solar Cities, Glass for Contemporary Architecture, etc.

    As a part of the social responsibility, AIGMF decided to compile some of the articles, published in their quarterly journal called KANCH (Glass), encompassing different subjects to release a book on glass entitled as "Glass - A Sustainable Building and Packaging Material" by a well-renowned glass technologist, **Prof. (Dr.) Asis Kumar Bandyopadhyay.

    The book was launched by Mr. Kamal Preet Singh, Special Director General (Western Region) CPWD, Mumbai. Book contains Technical articles written by Dr. Bandyopadhyay covering Smart/Solar cities, Glass Packaging and more.

    About 60 participants from CPWD, flat and solar glass companies (i.e., Asahi India Glass, Gujarat Guardian, Saint Gobain, HNG Float, Gujarat Borosil), Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS), Federation of Safety Glass (FOSG), Architects, Engineers, Glass Technologists, etc., attended the event.

    Interactive Session on Green Buildings / Goods and Services Tax - Challenges for the Businesses (Sept 12, 2015)

    As an Industry initiative, talk on Green Buildings was organised by AIGMF in collaboration with Paharpur Business Centre, Delhi on Indian Govt., vision of smart/solar cities including Green Building concept that could be adopted for the betterment of society.

    Mr. Barun Aggarwal, Director, BreatheEasy, a division of Paharpur Business Centre (PBC) gave a presentation on Introduction on Green Buildings.

    As CSR initiative, AIGMF gifted 100 glass water bottles specially manufactured by Hindustan National Glass and Industries to Paharpur Business Centre to further strengthen green building concept.

    Mr. Kabir Bogra, Partner (Indirect Tax) Khaitan & Co., gave a presentation on GST- Challenges for the Businesses. His presentation covered about GST, its need, proposed structure and impact on businesses.

    The program was attended by approx. 40 participants, which provided an opportunity to discuss about smart/solar cities and Clean India Campaign.

    The meeting was followed by facility tour of Paharpur Business Centre to get the feeling of Green Building.

    Business Opportunities for Glass Sector in MENA (Middle East & North Africa) Region (July 12, 2014)

    An interactive presentation session was organised by AIGMF, at their Executive Committee meeting in association with Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA), to share the "Business Opportunities in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE" with its members. The seminar served as a platform for the business community to explore and gain further insight on the economic and financial benefits available in expanding to the Middle East with ease through assisted services by RAKIA.

    The delegation from RAKIA, an entity of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, comprising of Probir Chakraborty (Chief Operating Officer), Alan Dsouza (Associate Manager - International Business Development), interacted with industry leaders and global heads for the glass sector, elaborating on key details of the benefits of doing business from RAKIA's Industrial Parks and Free Zone.

    The delegation emphasized that due to government reforms, political stability, business friendly policies and excellent infrastructure and facilities, RAKIA continues to attract and encourage investments for its strategically located Industrial Parks and Free Zones.

    Probir Chakraborty, RAKIA's COO, also highlighted the benefits of setting up operations at RAKIA which offers 100 per cent foreign ownership, 100 per cent income tax and corporate tax exemption, and 100 per cent capital and profit repatriation, making it the most attractive and fastest growing free zone for many aspiring entrepreneurs.     A ‘Seminar on Energy Efficiency & Waste Heat Recovery System for Glass Industry’ was organised along with AIGMF Executive Committee Meeting on April 19, 2014 at Sahara Star Hotel, Mumbai.

    The Seminar was sponsored by M/s Oranje Kracht Engg. Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai who are representatives of ALSTOM & Qpunkt GmbH offering wide range of high temp heat recovery products like recuperates, waste heat recovery (WHR) boilers along with a complete turnkey WHR system for glass industry.

    The program was attended by approx. 50 participants, which provided an opportunity to discuss energy efficiency techniques, project financing by TATA Capital & how to generate power from flue gas by showcasing patented & proven highly efficient German made waste heat recovery systems.

    Farewell to Mr. Manohar Lal (Jan 4, 2014)

    Mr. Manohar Lal, Secretary AIGMF retired after rendering over 24 years of service to the Federation during a function organised on Jan 4, 2014.

    Mr. Lal joined AIGMF on July 1, 1989. He gratefully acknowledged members sentiments and thanked everyone for understanding and consideration shown to him. He also stated that his successful working during this tenure was because of close cooperation of Office Bearers, Members and Secretariat of the AIGMF.

    Felicitation of Mr. C K Somany on being honoured 'Glass Person of the Year 2013' (December 2, 2013)

    Mr. CK Somany, Non-Executive Chairman, HNG Group, was felicitated by The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation in honour of being conferred ‘Phoenix Award’ Glass Person of the Year 2013 for his significant and major contributions to glass industry in the field of science, production and education.

    The program was organised by AIGMF in association with La Opala RG Ltd., at Bengal Club wherein about 100 persons from Industry, CGCRI and visiting members of International Commission on Glass joined.

    CERAGLASS India 2012 (15 - 18 December, 2012)

    As a Supporting Association, AIGMF participated in CeraGlass India 2012, an International B2B Trade Fair & Conference on Ceramics, Glass & Allied Products, held in Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) from December 15 – 18, 2012 at EPIP, Sitapura.

    The international trade fair was jointly organized by RIICO (Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation), CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and the Government of India with participation from 10 states along with exhibitors from five countries-China, France, Germany, Italy and Korea.

    The four-day CeraGlass India showcased latest in the ceramics and glass industry, be it the raw materials and finished goods or advanced machinery and the best technology.

    2nd GLASSPEX INDIA (12th-14th Jan 2011) establishes itself as a key market place for the glass industry on the Indian Subcontinent. The exhibition was organized by Messe Dusseldorf GmbH/Messe Dusseldorf India Pvt. Ltd. supported mainly by AIGMF in India.

    1st GLASSPEX INDIA (2-4, December 2009)

    The 1st GLASSPEX INDIA was held from 2-4, December 2009 and had 139 exhibitors from over 20 countries as well as over 3,200 registered trade visitors.

    Parallel to GLASSPEX INDIA 2009, the 8th International Glass Technology Conference organized by the AIGMF was held.

    Special show displaying state-of-the-art solar technology: Nine companies from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands presented innovative solar panels, glass and solar energy systems, solar thermal collectors and photovoltaic cells in a display of trendsetting developments and applications. The special show supplemented the range of products and services supplied by the 139 exhibitors that are participating in the first edition of GLASSPEX INDIA.
